A11y Lab

A11y Lab, is part of the Commerce Studio suite of digital products at WPP, and is a dynamic accessibility scanning tool used across client accounts to assess, track and improve performance of accessibility on brand sites and digital applications.

I was involved as an IC Product Designer across all parts of this project.

From concept to completion

Extensive UX concepting and wireframing was done to consolidate the multiple data sources that fed into the Lab platform. The UI and design system needed to be clear and scannable for users to easily understand issues and pain points.

Addressing the challenges

The accessibility monitoring ecosystem is inherently fragmented. Organisations typically juggle multiple tools—automated scanners, manual audit reports, user testing feedback, and compliance tracking systems—each operating in isolation with different data formats, metrics, and reporting standards. This fragmentation creates several critical pain points that we addressed, bringing them into one branded platform.
–  An adaptive branded Interface to address the information architecture complexity
–  Data Normalisation to solve the fragmented data sources
–  Workflows to remove cross-team collaboration barriers
–  Contextual learning to empowers teams with varying accessibility expertise

Building the brand and developing the design system

The task was to build a unified design system and workflow across design and engineering – reconciling inconsistent components, legacy patterns, and competing workflows. Establishing a single source of truth, shared token libraries, and clear governance. The result: faster iteration, consistent user experiences, and measurable gains in cross-functional adoption.
